The long-vacant property at the corner of Main Street and Arthursville Road in Hartly will soon be home to a Dollar General Market, branded as 'DG Market.' This concept extends the offerings of Dollar General’s traditional stores to include a larger selection of fresh produce, meats, and grocery items.

The construction of the DG Market in Hartly is well underway.

Their website states "These stores provide communities, particularly rural and underserved areas, convenient access to essential goods at competitive prices. The layout typically maintains a similar footprint to regular Dollar General stores but includes enhancements such as a produce section and expanded grocery options, which cater to a broader range of customer needs."

Permits were issued in January 2025, and the Dollar General website indicates that they are now hiring for positions. We visited in April and found the site work and frame of the building mostly complete. Interestingly, a Family Dollar sits directly across the street! These two are not owned by the same company, and are in fact competitors! Dollar General also operates a regular store in the nearby Town of Kenton.

Work continues on the DG Market in Hartly.

The location has been vacant for years. Seward's Service Station used to occupy the location. As a potential EPA Brownsfields site, it has presumably been cleared of any hazardous contamination.
