Middletown Walmart - Adding Fuel Pumps and Grab & Go Store

The Middletown, Delaware Walmart was chosen as one of the approximately 45 locations country-wide to be upgraded with a fuel depot. Plans were submitted in June to the Middletown Planning Commission to build an 8-pump fuel depot and a "Grab & Go" convenience store in the parking lot.

The pumps and store would be located in the front parking lot, out by Middletown Warwick Road and closest to the Panda Express/Chipotle building. The closest current access is a right-in and right-out intersection and would remain the same under this proposal. A large chunk of parking spaces would be eliminated but the plans also call for more parking to be added to the side and rear of the main Walmart store.

Walmart is seeking to rapidly expand it's fuel offerings at Walmart's across the country, with plans to open 45 this year and hundreds more in the coming years. The proposed Middletown location will be 1,618 square feet and feature many quick stop and impulse-buy items such as milk, fountain sodas, tobacco and lottery tickets.

Worth noting, Walmart+ members do get 10 cents off a gallon at Walmart gas stations. As a first year Walmart+ member, I'm glad I'll be able to finally take advantage of that incentive! No other Walmart's in the area currently offer gas.

I was able to get a hold of the plans as presented to the Planning Commission. As you can see, the gas pumps will be facing Middletown Warwick Road with the convenience store directly behind it. It looks like traffic will mainly flow towards the main Walmart store, but there is a back entrance you could use if coming from the main store to get gas.

Previous corporate announcements have said that no EV charging is included in any of their expansion plans.

If you're a Maryland resident coming to Middletown to shop or eat, this gas station would be your last stop southbound if headed back to get on Warwick Road/Route 301. The next closest southbound gas is the Dash In, which is about a mile north in front of the Target. Not having to cross traffic and wait for lights could save you some serious time!
