Jersey Mike’s Approved for Chestertown
A vacant restaurant building on Washington Avenue is getting a new lease on life. Jersey Mike’s Subs is coming to 709 Washington Avenue in Chestertown, taking over the former KFC/Taco Bell location.
The project received both preliminary and final approval at the October 21 Chestertown Planning Commission meeting, clearing the way for the restaurant conversion to move forward.
The project required site plan review because the property had been vacant for more than 12 months. Rather than constructing a new building, the plans call for renovating the existing restaurant space and adapting it for Jersey Mike’s operations.

Though most of the work will be interior renovations, on the outside, the building will get a fresh coat of paint in the chain’s signature blue, white and gray colors. The building’s footprint and height will remain unchanged, as will the existing parking layout and utilities.
The plans also call for removing the existing drive-thru menu board while keeping the drive-thru window for pickup orders only. Customers will need to place their orders ahead of time. You won't be able to pull up to the window and order on the spot.

Never Been To A Jersey Mikes?!
Jersey Mike’s is a sub sandwich chain that traces its roots to Point Pleasant, New Jersey, where the original shop opened in 1956. The brand is known for its made-to-order hot and cold subs, along with cheesesteaks and its signature sandwich toppings.
The Chestertown restaurant will give local residents another option for lunch, dinner or a quick meal to take on the go.
What Happens Next?
With Planning Commission approval secured, the next step is to seek the required building permits from the Town of Chestertown and permits from the Kent County Health Department. Once the necessary permits are obtained, the interior buildout can move forward. It's expected that is going to take several months.
