While we’re a little late on the grand opening (they opened in November of 2024!), we finally made it here to try the “Nashville” hot chicken. Hangry Joes is the newest option for chicken lovers in the state capital. They join existing Dover restaurants Chic-fil-A, Wing Stop, Chicken House, Popeyes, KFC, Wings-To-Go and Buffalo Wild Wings. Raising Canes and Dave's Hot Chicken are also moving in to Dover this year.

Hangry Joes is located in the newer Capital Station shopping center, which is home to the new Aldi, Crumbl Cookies and Barrio Bar. Stepping into the restaurant we were greeted with a simple setup, bright walls and large mural. You could order via two kiosks to your right or step up to the counter. With the newbies that we were, we opted to order at the counter.

The menu sticks to the basics - Chicken fingers, wings, chicken sandwiches, wraps, fries and chicken salads. You can select your spice level - no seasoning, no heat, mild, medium, hot and angry hot - which is non-refundable and requires a waiver! After that, you can select your sauces or dips - all the usual options. Drink options include Pepsi products, sweet or unsweet tea, flavored milk shakes and bottled drink options from a cooler. Your order is then custom made with your options and brought to your table, if dining in.

The pricing seems to be comparable to the other fast-casual chicken restaurants. At the time we visited, they were running a special for free small chicken bites with purchase of a combo! Two combo's, an extra side order of fries and a small Sunny-D drink ran us about $35. (Ouch! But I guess that is about average in the post-covid era!)

We ordered the bone-in wings, seasoned mild with with Honey BBQ sauce. The french fries are waffle cut and appeared to have the seasoning baked into them, as opposed to sprinkled on top after cooking. They were crispy but not overdone. The other combo was chicken fingers which were equally as delicious.

Overall, we were impressed. Even though the location sits off the highway, it had a steady flow of customers (we waited for a break to take the pictures)! We arrived a little after the lunch rush and only one table was empty. Service was good, tea was sweet and the food came out quickly and was not short of flavor. Despite the fairly simple menu, we will visit again!

You will also find a Hangry Joes coming soon to Elsmere, Delaware, Elkton, Maryland and Salisbury, Maryland! Leave us a comment on our Socials if you've tried the Angry Hot!
