Ocean State Job Lot Taking Over Several Delmarva Big Lots Stores

Ocean State Job Lot, a discount retail chain with 159 stores across the Northeast, announced that they have acquired 15 Big Lots locations in eight states. Several of these are in the Delmarva region. The new Delmarva stores will be their southernmost stores in their portfolio.

The former Big Lots locations being turned into OSJL's are in Dover and Seaford, Delaware and Chester (Kent Island), Easton and Elkton, Maryland. Many of the Big Lots stores closed this past year. All of the remodeled locations are expected to open in early summer 2025!

OSJL will hire for up to 70 positions in each store, including store leadership; supervisory; and full-time, part-time, and seasonal associates. The company noted that current Big Lots associates will be offered positions.

Ocean State Job Lot was founded in 1977 and is a growing, privately held discount retail chain with 159 stores in New England, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Their website states shoppers can find an ever-changing array of brand name, first-quality merchandise at closeout prices, including household goods, apparel, pet supplies, seasonal products (holiday, gardening, patio, pool, and beach supplies), and kitchen pantry staples at a fraction of their typical price.

On a recent visit to the old Dover Big Lots, we found workers repainting the interior. The Kent Island store does not have any noticeable work being done yet. Based on the format of their other stores, there shouldn't be much interior work needed other than some paint and minor repairs.
